NEXUS will be closing as of June 2008

general information

Nexus Academy operates from a model that embraces critical thinking and writing across the curriculum. Seventh to tenth grade students take English, Social Studies, Math, Science, Physical Education, and Living Skills/Exploratory.

These standard-aligned courses are intended to develop student skills to support their current academic needs, and hopefully assist them in becoming immersed into a mainstream site. Graduation requirements for middle school and high school can be found in the Nexus Handbook.

grades

Like all other California public schools, Nexus Academy students are entitled to earn grades and credits. Nexus Academy teachers have the responsibility to award grades to students.

Credits:

Credit is awarded at the rate of one credit for every 15 hours of course work in which the student receives a passing grade. Grades are given four times a year.  These grades are added to the grades received at the comprehensive site. Each school district requires a certain number of credits in various subjects. Nexus Academy staff will assist students in identifying the proper number of credits a student requires during his/her stay.

Transcripts:

Student transcripts are issued that document courses taken and grades received while at Nexus Academy. These transcripts are sent, upon request, to the district offices of the student’s district of residence. Credits and courses completed while at Nexus Academy are transferable to the “home school district.” Courses and credits from other schools are transferable to Nexus Academy.
